
Memphis might be known around the globe for its barbecue, but there’s so much more to the city’s restaurant scene.
And summer is a great time to try a bite of what all the Bluff City has to offer — from pancakes to a pinball pub, tacos to Whipped Goat Toast.
But with so many options, it can be a daunting task to know where to start — especially as a number of new restaurants open and bring something new to the table. Never fear, we’re here to help.

►Let’s start with some of the new eats. 2022 already has brought a number of new restaurants to the Memphis area — and many more are still to come later this year. ►Looking for a place to enjoy a cocktail with a great view of the Mississippi River? You’re in luck. There are more options than ever for dining with a view in Memphis. Here are five spots Commercial Appeal Food & Dining reporter Jennifer Chandler recommends for sipping a cocktail and watching the sunset over the Mighty Mississippi.
►Speaking of restaurants with a view, Fancy’s Fish House brought riverfront dining back to Downtown Memphis when it opened April 8, part of the One Beale development. In a sneak peek, Jennifer said to expect to find chef-inspired favorites with fresh daily caught fish, a lavish raw bar and signature dishes from the grill — all served in a dining room with a casual, old Florida fish house vibe.
►We can’t leave out barbecue. This is Memphis — home of the best barbecue around. If you’ve lived here for more than a week, you probably have a very strong opinion about what is the city’s best barbecue. (Let’s be honest: They’re all pretty darn good.) A group of fearless Commercial Appeal reporters recently went out to try to find the best barbecue sandwich in the city, visiting five restaurants in just under 4 hours. You can follow their route — but make sure to leave time for a nap afterward.
