The Best Darn Food City Uou Can Get

A summer guide to the new and best restaurants

Memphis might be known around the globe for its barbecue, but there’s so much more to the city’s restaurant scene.

And summer is a great time to try a bite of what all the Bluff City has to offer — from pancakes to a pinball pub, tacos to Whipped Goat Toast.

But with so many options, it can be a daunting task to know where to start — especially as a number of new restaurants open and bring something new to the table. Never fear, we’re here to help.

Here are some Memphis eats that should be on your must-try (or try again) list this summer. Make sure to check this article regularly, as we’ll be updating it throughout the summer.

Memphis restaurants to try this summer

►Let’s start with some of the new eats. 2022 already has brought a number of new restaurants to the Memphis area — and many more are still to come later this year. From seafood to bundt cakes, Southern fare to tacos, there’s something for every taste. Here are a few of the new restaurants you need to try and here are a few more. (We could go on and on.)

►It’s also been a busy year so far for bakery openings:

►Looking for a place to enjoy a cocktail with a great view of the Mississippi River? You’re in luck. There are more options than ever for dining with a view in Memphis. Here are five spots Commercial Appeal Food & Dining reporter Jennifer Chandler recommends for sipping a cocktail and watching the sunset over the Mighty Mississippi.

Ahi Tuna Nachos feature an avocado mousse, jalape–o and radish Friday, April 1, 2022, at Fancy's Fish House in Memphis.

►Speaking of restaurants with a view, Fancy’s Fish House brought riverfront dining back to Downtown Memphis when it opened April 8, part of the One Beale development. In a sneak peek, Jennifer said to expect to find chef-inspired favorites with fresh daily caught fish, a lavish raw bar and signature dishes from the grill — all served in a dining room with a casual, old Florida fish house vibe.
